“I’m thrilled to welcome Junaid Bostan, a rising super welterweight prospect, to the Matchroom team. Junaid is a brilliant young talent who really caught our attention with his knockout victory on the undercard of Smith vs. O’Maison in Sheffield last month. He has the confidence and skills needed to build a career at the top of the 154-pound division.” – Eddie Hearn

Bostan is a two-time national champion who learned to box at an early age under the guidance of Brendan Ingle before joining Grant Smith at 13.

Now signed with Matchroom Boxing, his record stands at 10-0-1, with 8 KOs.

The heavy hitter is set to do some serious damage in the 154-pound division.

A Committed Prospect

His name first reached my ears due to his positive impact in the city of Rotherham, England. In August 2024, far-right groups sparked riots around the Holiday Inn, which was being used to house asylum seekers.

Junaid Bostan publicly spoke out, urging the authorities to organize a major public debate where all opinions could be heard respectfully. He quickly made the rounds in the English media, sharing the story of his grandmother, who served in the British Army at 22.

Junaid became the voice of reason in this conflict, earning him a growing fan base.

Bostan turned professional in 2022 after signing with Matchroom Boxing. He knocked out his first five opponents and claimed the Commonwealth title after dismantling Jack Martin, a tough and durable challenger.

In January 2025, he lost his perfect record but remained unbeaten, with a draw against Bilal Fawaz. The week leading up to the fight was – let’s just say – spectacular… the trash talk flew non-stop. It was then that we discovered Junaid’s sharp tongue.

A Versatile Offense

On the attack, his body shots are not for the faint-hearted. He strikes like a lumberjack weakening a tree trunk before watching it fall. As a southpaw, he’s a master at controlling distance with his jab, which is often followed by a hook.

Against tougher and more experienced opponents (Amos, Russ, Fawaz), he has at times struggled defensively and has run out of gas in later rounds, even dropping a few due to conditioning issues.

“Junaid is a hard worker. He’s always had that mentality of wanting to be the best, even as a kid in the gym. He doesn’t rest on his laurels, and that’s what makes him special,” said a Yorkshire Post article about him.

He trains at the legendary Steel City Gym, alongside fighters like Dalton Smith (Mathieu Germain’s next opponent) and Sunny Edwards.

His trash talk and charisma will win over boxing fans and push him toward stardom.

What’s Next?

Beyond a rematch with Bilal Fawaz, potential opponents in the next two to three years include Florian Marku and Josh Kelly.

At just 22 years old, Junaid Bostan is already proving to be much more than just another super welterweight prospect. With an impressive 10-0-1 record, including 8 knockouts, this southpaw with a razor-sharp jab and devastating body shots is set to shake up the 154-pound division.

Outside the ring, his voice carries in Rotherham, where he turned rising tensions into a call for unity, winning the hearts of fans and the media alike.

If his trash talk and charisma light up the pre-fight build-ups, it’s his determination to improve – despite some defensive flaws – that will take him far. With a rematch against Bilal Fawaz on the horizon and names like Florian Marku and Josh Kelly in his sights, Bostan is just beginning his ascent. The Star Boy of Rotherham might just become a shooting star in the boxing world in the years to come.

Remember His Name

Mark my words: since Junaid “Star Boy” Bostan is coming off a draw, by naming him Prospect of the Month now, I’ll look like a genius when he becomes world champion…

Look at the picture of him with Caleb Plant, he’s a monster at 154 lb… Don’t be surprised to see him against top Quebec boxing prospects, for 154 to 168, in the coming years…
