Mbilli-Derevyanchenko: the Dream Undercard of Matt Casavant

Matt Casavant - Punching Grace

Photo: Vincent Ethier – If you were a matchmaker, what fights would you try to organize on the undercard of the grand final between Mbilli and Derevyanchenko?

While the Mbilli v. Derevyanchenko is on everyone’s lips, we still don’t know who or what other fights will take place on August 17 at the Videotron Center. In the meantime, we asked our analyst, Matt Casavant, to play matchmaker to present his dream undercard.

Makhmudov vs. Anderson

Duel between EOTTM and Top Rank in the semi-final. Many see Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs) as a future great champion and Makhmudov’s team (19-1, 18 KOs) believes his defeat in Riyadh was just a bad day. Plus, for what it’s worth, the two beat Miljan Rovacan in 2 rounds and Andrew Satterfield in the 1st.

Bazinyan vs. Phinn II

A local fight and a rematch. Everything is here.

Gaumont vs. Poulin

Another local fight. Poulin’s Canadian title could be on the line and Gaumont has already made the 8 round limit twice, so it could even be a 10.

Beaudoin vs. Camara

Conditional on this case, everything goes well for Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO) on June 6. Moving up to 135 pounds, she would fight in a first 10 rounds and for a first title. Even if Beaudoin would fight in front of his family, it would also give Jessica ‘Cobra’ Camara (13-4, 3 KOs), new WBA Gold champion, an opportunity to fight again in Quebec after 3 fights on the road!

Guerrero vs. Menoche

To continue on this card which is one Anderson away from being 100% local, a duel between Christopher ‘Machine Gun’ Guerrero (11-0, 6 KOs) and Kevin Menoche (8-1, 6 KOs. -O.). In the past, Guerrero has even publicly said that he is up for this fight.

Martin Duval vs. Chabot

Both returned in force on May 2. After his first career co-main-event fight, Avery Martin Duval created a slight surprise by saying that he would like to face Thomas Chabot, even saying that he would stop him if that happened…

Orobio vs. Almoty El Safadi

The two Montrealers each have a fight planned in June, Jhon Orobio (9-0, 8 KOs) on the 6th, and Abed Almoty El Safadi (6-0, 2 KOs) on the 20th. What’s interesting is that this will also be the 1st fight scheduled for 8 rounds of each. It could even be for a Youth title or something like that.

Santana vs. Soumaoro

To finish strong another fight which could very well be a 10 round! Luis Santana (11-0, 5 KOs) could make some noise by winning, but Mohamed ‘Black Buffalo’ Soumaoro (14-3, 6 KOs) has already proven time and time again that he did not shy away from any challenge in the past.

A perfect fight to get the crowd in the mood… with Mbilli vs. Derevyanchenko on the way.
