Osleys Iglesias: the Perfect Storm?

Laurent Poulin - Boxingtown Québec

I didn’t hesitate for a second between writing “home run” or even “grand slam” in my title. Watching the 26-year-old Cuban boxer, I’ve never been more certain that a Quebec boxer would sweep everything in his path.

The expression “he’s got it all” takes on its full meaning with ‘El Tornado.’ At super middleweight, Osleys Iglesias is imposing, possesses the Cuban boxing technique, hits like a freight truck, and is a southpaw.

His 2024 has been, let’s say, explosive. In less than 6 minutes, he disposed of Marcelo Coceres, Evgeny Shvedenko, and Sena Agbeko. It must be admitted that he’s becoming a true nightmare for the poor people at EOTTM who have to find opponents for him. No one is rushing to the doors of the Montreal Casino to take their chance against Osleys Iglesias…

Quick Facts

He has an amateur record of 184-16, is trained by Georg Bramowsk, famous for his work with Yoan Pablo Hernandez and Arthur Abraham.

Author’s note: I’d bet my retirement savings on Osleys Iglesias against any 168-pound boxer, including Saul Alvarez, Caleb Plant, or even Edgar Berlanga.

And apparently, so would he, because here’s what he told me when I asked if he had a message for any champions or contenders in his division: “I’m ready to face anyone, and I’m confident I can beat them all. Get ready, because the future king of the super middleweights has a name, and it’s Osleys Iglesias,” he said.

Who is Petro Ivanov?

Like Iglesias, Petro Ivanov is a boxer adopted by Germany (in his own case from Ukraine). He also won a few titles, including the IBF International belt.

Undefeated in 20 fights (18-0-2), he made his mark on the international scene by ending the career of French puncher Louis Toutin in 2018, at the same time winning the WBC Youth title. His career is supported by Sergey Lapin and Oleksandr Usyk, who formed a management team named Ready To Fight to assist Ukrainian boxers. Inspired by the Klitschko brothers, he decided to turn professional at 18.

“I’m looking forward to November 7th, as it will be my chance to make a name for myself on the world stage. I know Iglesias is strong and hits hard, but in our sport, anyone can be beaten. I will train so that he won’t be an exception, and at the end of the fight, the IBO world title will be in my luggage on the way home,” declared Petro Ivanov, who has won his last six victories before the final bell.

In the ring, Petro Ivanov undeniably has power. He got rid of Vladimir Bejusky in 5 rounds, a boxer who went the distance with Shakeel Phinn. He has 13 KOs in 18 wins. However, he’s not hard to hit, often rushes forward without much thought, and doesn’t have a high work rate.

I doubt he can resist our Cuban tornado for long. However, Boxrec sees him as a real top 20 contender, making him a fascinating target.

My word

I’ll conclude as I started: enjoy your evening at the Casino watching Osleys Iglesias do what he does best—knocking out his opponents. Soon, he’ll be on the world’s biggest stages, fighting to become a unified world champion.

Poulin’s promise: with Osleys, you can’t go wrong.
