Photo: Esther Lin/MVP Promotions – After filling Madison Square Garden in 2022, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will meet again tonight at AT&T Stadium in the co-main event of the highly anticipated Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight.
While Mike Tyson, 58, steps out of nearly 20 years of retirement to face Jake Paul, boxing fans are in for a treat… in the co-main event!
The queen of super-lightweights, Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs), will once again take on seven-division champion Amanda Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs) tonight in Texas.
Back in April 2022, the two legends delivered the fight of the year for women’s boxing, electrifying a packed MSG. At the time, the Irish fighter edged out a razor-thin decision in the judges’ eyes. Two years later, will history repeat itself? I asked a few prominent voices in Quebec’s women’s boxing scene for their thoughts…
Leïla Beaudoin, WBO super featherweight International Champion
“I believe Katie Taylor will win thanks to her footwork, technique, and ring IQ. Amanda Serrano is excellent on the inside, with strong combinations, but she’s more flat-footed. So I think if Taylor sticks to her game plan, boxing at a distance as she did in the first part of their first fight, she could even win relatively easily.”
Prediction: Taylor by unanimous decision.
Samuel Décarie-Drolet, coach
“I love Katie Taylor and am grateful for everything she’s done for women’s boxing. As an amateur, she was a terror on the international stage and achieved great things in both Olympic and professional boxing.
That said, I believe her best days in the ring are behind her. Amanda Serrano is one of my favorite boxers. Powerful and relentless, she’s conquered titles across numerous weight classes.
While she fought for peanuts in her early fights, Friday night Taylor and Serrano will earn the largest purses ever seen in women’s boxing!
Technically, Taylor has the edge. However, Serrano has the power, aggression, and tenacity. If Amanda decides to ‘bully’ Taylor, I think she’ll pull off an upset and stop Taylor in the later rounds. But if Serrano tries to outbox Taylor, it’ll be another close fight, just like their first meeting.”
Prediction: Serrano by unanimous decision or late stoppage.
Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, Former WBC Heavyweight Champion
Prediction: Taylor by unanimous decision.
Mary Spencer, WBA Junior Middleweight Champion
Prediction:”I believe the rematch will favor the better boxer… so Katie Taylor will win by decision.”
Marie-Eve Albert, Host of the 120 Secondes Podcast
“The first fight in May 2022 was full of twists and turns. Both boxers shined at key moments, complicating things for the judges.
Two years later, I expect similar intensity in the ring, but time has passed. Serrano is moving up two weight classes for this fight, with only one bout at this weight, but she’s been in intense 12-round, three-minute fights where her punch output was nearly unmatched.
As for Taylor, she became the undisputed champion at 140 lbs but suffered her first pro loss to Chantelle Cameron, showing she’s not invincible.
That said, I believe Taylor’s experience in her rematch against Cameron will serve her well, and she’ll squeeze out a decision win from the judges.”
Prediction: Taylor by split decision.
FINAL TALLY: 4-1 Taylor.
